The Marais hit its golden age in the 17th century when it became a trendy place to live for the wealthy bourgeoisie of Paris. Recently restored, this quaint and picturesque neighborhood is very popular, thanks in a large part to its trendy fashion boutiques and its numerous museums. The rue du Trésor is a beautiful dead-end street lined with restaurants. It was at the end of this road where treasure was once found containing money from the 14th and 15th centuries. Between 1190 and 1220, under the reign of Philippe Augustus, Paris was protected by a fortified wall. You can still find remnants of it today. Such as this spot in the Marais. The Hôtel de Sens, located on rue du Figuier, dates back to 1519. Today this city palace, with its medieval architecture, houses the Forney art library.
